Frequently Asked Questions
Enrolment and prices
You can come into the centre at any point within our opening times and simply fill out an application form specifically stating which sessions you would like to attend.
Note: If your child is in Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2 there is a small entrance test, just to see what level the student is working at and to give them a little idea of what kind of things to expect.
Our prices depend on the package The cost of the sessions depends on your child’s performance on the entrance test. After the assessment is done, a recommendation will be provided on how many sessions they will need each week. Each session lasts for 3 hours, and the total cost will be determined based on the number of sessions required.
Sessions and tutors
The first 10 mins of the lesson consists of reviewing homework from the previous week and addressing any issues. Majority of the session will consist on working through work which we provide or work that the student may have brought in to specifically go through. At the end of every session we set homework, to be due in for the next session.
Generally we do not offer one to one tuition however it can be organised on an individual basis.
Each session is 3 hours long. This can be for one specific subject, or if 3 subjects, the 3 hours can be split into each for both subjects. What subjects can my child study?
The subjects that we have to offer are Maths, English and Science
We try to maintain small groups of three students per tutor.
We are open Tuesday and Thursday, 4pm-8pm; Saturday and Sunday, 11am-3pm
The tutors are experts in the fields that they teach.
What subjects should I do?
This is dependent on what you would like to study at University. It is crucial to have the correct A levels for the degree of your choice, to maximise your chances of getting into the best university possible. Certain courses at university are course-specific and are looking for those who have the correct A levels, note some courses specifically disregard a certain subject or do not want a particular subject (‘non-preferred’). Picking a ‘facilitating’ subject (subjects most commonly asked for by universities) will broaden your options. These subjects include: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, Maths, Modern/Classical Languages, History and Geography. Remember there is a big step between GCSE and A levels, and is generally harder therefore picking the most suitable subjects for you is vital.
Again, this is individual based and is different from person to person. However, you should choose subjects which will challenge you but at the same time you can enjoy alongside your core subjects. In our opinion try to keep your options as open as possible, if you do not know what career path you would like to take in the future (like most students in year 9, 10 and 11). Remember, no subject is ‘easy’, so choose wisely. There is no definite method of choosing your subject, the choice is personal, however, it would help if you can think about your future goals and aspirations when deciding.
